A Father Speaks to His Child – II

I see that today

You have many things planned.

There’s that letter you need to write;

Words that come hard

because of years of oversight.

Yet, you have always

been there, as I have for you,

And when she reached out

you knew what to do.

Words filled with truth,

not harsh nor compromised,

may be difficult to receive

But ultimately won’t be despised.

So pen words on paper

that clearly demonstrate

the love I have shown to you

when you were in a rebellious state.

Leave the rest to Me; remember,

I’m in this, too,

I’m the One who initiated

her reaching out to you.

Now, have you thought

to ask Me what I wished for your day?

Did you just hear me sigh?

Asking is something you rarely do.

Even at your age, you are such a child.

You think you can run and jump so high,

Often you don’t see the treasures

you are passing by.

But, that’s okay. Like any father,

I know my little girl,

and I know she thinks that before her

is a great, big, helpless world

that needs her to swing a mighty sword

and vanquish all the evil hordes

of demons and ghouls

that prey upon unsuspecting fools.

Did you just hear me chuckle, Child?

Ah, I know you well.

In the ages, we will sit and I will tell

you of the many times

you made Me shake My head,

when I wanted you to be still, but instead,

you ran after some predictable scheme,

Oh, I will remind you

of all your little-girl dreams

now fulfilled just by sitting with Me.

Please, don’t hear me making fun

of all the things you thought

really needed to be done.

I have been pleased with

This life you have lived,

because when it mattered most

you knew how to give;

to give of yourself

and the treasures you’ve gained,

the wisdom you’ve learned,

the wealth you’ve obtained.

And, you have always given

in respect of Me,

Knowing I have been the One

who carried you through

each of life’s adversities.

So, here’s what I want of you today;

I want you to go out

and I want you to play.

I want you to laugh

and maybe sing a song.

It doesn’t really have to be on key.

But in it all, remember this,

I sent you on your adventure

With a fatherly kiss.

Oh, one final thought;

When you write that letter,

One little reminder.

Don’t forget the ninety and nine;

It was I who went out to find her.

Stop a moment before you pen your words,

And I promise when she reads them,

It will be her Father’s love

She will have heard.
