There Once was a Kid

There once was a kid,

You know the kind—unruly,

Undisciplined—but with

An inquisitive mind.

Always asking questions,

Challenging authority,

Attempting to create

An alternate reality.

There once was a kid,

You know the kind—in trouble

A lot—for various crimes.

Unrolling all the toilet paper

In the gym’s bathrooms,

Hiding frogs inside

The teacher’s desk,

And setting fire

To the janitor’s broom.

This kid who constantly brought

So much grief,

You will be happy to know—

Take a sigh of relief,

Grew up to be

As fine as can be.

For that obnoxious child

Was me.
